Session 5

As a Facilitator, I had the opportunity to use Moodle platform for e-facilitation of online courses. Moodle is a powerful learning management system that allows for the creation and delivery of online courses, as well as the facilitation of virtual meetings like online chat. Through my experience with Moodle, I had come to appreciate the unique benefits and challenges of e-facilitation. One of the key benefits of Moodle is its ability to facilitate asynchronous learning. This means that students can access course materials and participate in discussions at their own pace and on their own schedule. This flexibility is particularly valuable for students who may have other commitments, such as work or family responsibilities, that make it difficult to attend traditional classroom sessions. However, Moodle also presents unique challenges for e-facilitation. Without the benefit of face-to-face communication, it can be difficult to build rapport and establish a sense of community within a vi...

Session 4: E-learning Practices in Higher Education

Image
The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the way we work and learn, and e-learning practices have become more important than ever before. In higher education, e-learning has become a necessity as universities around the world transitioned to remote learning. In this blog post, I will discuss some of the best e-learning practices in higher education. Provide Accessible Course Material: It's crucial to provide accessible course materials to students. In e-learning, this means providing digital textbooks and lectures that are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. The use of screen readers closed captioning, and transcripts can make a significant difference in ensuring that all students have access to the course material. Engage Students with Interactive Learning: Students should be engaged with interactive learning activities that allow them to apply concepts learned in the classroom. Interactive learning activities such as virtual labs, case studies, an...

E-assessment and Marking rubric

Image
A marking rubric is a tool used by teachers to evaluate student work. It consists of a set of criteria and performance levels that are used to assess student performance. At USP, a marking rubric is used to evaluate student work in e-assessment. The university has developed a standardized marking rubric that is used across all courses and programs. The marking rubric used at USP consists of four performance levels: excellent, good, satisfactory, and unsatisfactory. Each performance level is defined by a set of criteria, such as content knowledge, critical thinking, communication skills, and use of evidence. For example, to achieve an excellent performance level, a student must demonstrate exceptional content knowledge, critical thinking, excellent communication skills, and excellent use of evidence. The use of marking rubrics in e-assessment at USP ensures that grading is consistent across different teachers and courses. Moreover, the rubric provides students with clear expectation...

OER

Image
Open Educational Resources (OER): The Key to Accessible and Affordable Education The rise of the internet has democratized education, allowing learners to access and learn from anywhere. One of the most accessible and affordable educational resources is the open educational resource (OER). OERs are collections of educational materials that are freely available online. They can be used by anyone and include various lesson plans, textbooks, and videos. Academics, teachers, and institutions create and share these resources with the goal of making learning more accessible. One of the main advantages of OER is that they're free to use, allowing students who can't afford traditional textbooks to still gain access to high-quality learning materials. They can also be customized to meet the varying needs of learners. The fact that OERs are updated and enhanced on a regular basis is another benefit. OERs are intended to be flexible and adaptive, in contrast to conventional textbooks, whi...

Session 1: Technology enabled Learning and Future of Higher Education Blog

Image
Technology enabled Learning and Future of Higher Education The University of the South Pacific (USP) is a regional university serving 12 Pacific Island countries with campuses in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. As technology continues to shape the future of education, USP is taking proactive steps to ensure that its students have access to the best learning experiences through technology-enabled learning. Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) is a term that refers to the use of digital technology to enhance the learning process. TEL can take many forms, including online courses, video lectures, interactive simulations, and mobile learning. With TEL, students can access learning materials and participate in activities from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, making education more accessible and flexible. USP has already made significant strides in implementing TEL. The university has offered distance and flexible learning programs for over 50 years, with over 30,0...
