Session 4: E-learning Practices in Higher Education

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the way we work and learn, and e-learning practices have become more important than ever before. In higher education, e-learning has become a necessity as universities around the world transitioned to remote learning. In this blog post, I will discuss some of the best e-learning practices in higher education.

• Provide Accessible Course Material: It's crucial to provide accessible course materials to students. In e-learning, this means providing digital textbooks and lectures that are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. The use of screen readers closed captioning, and transcripts can make a significant difference in ensuring that all students have access to the course material.
• Engage Students with Interactive Learning: Students should be engaged with interactive learning activities that allow them to apply concepts learned in the classroom. Interactive learning activities such as virtual labs, case studies, and simulations can help students understand complex concepts in a more practical and hands-on manner.
• Use Video and Audio for Effective Communication: Video and audio are excellent tools for effective communication in e-learning. Professors can record their lectures and post them online for students to watch at their own pace. Video and audio can also be used to facilitate online discussions and provide feedback on assignments and assessments.
• Foster Collaboration and Discussion: E-learning platforms should foster collaboration and discussion among students. Discussion forums and online group projects are great ways to promote collaboration and build a sense of community in online courses.

Here, I've provided a MicroLED for my ED403 course. I made a quick video (5 minutes) in which I try to provide information in preparation for my microteaching. This lesson's topic is Ergonomics. The lesson is taught to preliminary students in computing at USP. At the end of this lesson, students will be able to :

• Define the term ergonomics.
• Identify appropriate furniture and equipment to ensure health, safety, and increased productivity 

In conclusion, e-learning practices have become essential in higher education. Providing accessible course material, engaging students with interactive learning, using video and audio for effective communication, and fostering collaboration and discussion are all essential e-learning practices that can help students succeed in online courses. By implementing these practices, universities can provide students with the best e-learning experience possible.
